Government Art museum (Trivandrum)


This museum is situated near the Zoo. A rich collection of rare and old things such as jewels, coins, sculpture etc. are exhibited here. Working hours is between 9 am and 5 pm. Monday Holiday.


Zoo (Trivandrum)

 
One of the main zoos in Asia, situated between palayam and vellayambalam. There is vast collection of rare plants and very old trees in the premises. Working hours is between 9 am and 5 pm. Monday Holiday.

Sivagiri (Trivandrum)



Situated 3 km from Varkala Janardhana Swami Temple. This was the final resting place of Sree Narayana Guru. Rare pictures of Guru and his belongings are kept here. This is a famous pilgrimage center also.

Janardhana Swami Temple (Trivandrum)




This Temple is Located at Varkala. 50 Km from Trivandrum. This place is also called 'Dakshina Kasi', famous fro 'Pithrutharpanam'. The temple was maintained by the Pandya King.

Tourist spots in Trivandrum



Trivandrum is the capital city of Kerala or Keralam. It came into existence on 1st January 1957. It has a population of around 33,07,284. Its area is spread over 2192 sq.km. It is covered by Sahya mountain ranges on the East and North-eastern parts, Arabian sea on the west, Kollam district on the North and Kanyakumari on the south. Trivandrum has nearly 78 km of coastal areas. 

Main rivers are Neyyar, Karamana and Vamanapuram. Major backwaters include Edava, Nadayara, Anchuthengu, Kadinamkulam and Veli. Its atmospheric temperature is between 19.9 to 36.2 degree Celsius.

Tourist season is between September to May. Major pilgrimage centres include Sri Padmanabha Swami Temple, Attukal Bhagavathi Temple, Janardhana Swami Temple and Sivagiri. Other Tourist spots are Zoo, Government art museum, Sree chithra art gallery, Observatory, Kowdiar Palace, Science and Technology Museum, Priyadarsini Planetarium, Sanghumugham beach, Akkulam  tourist village, Veli, Kuthiramalika, Vizhinjam, Kovalam, Aruvikkara, Neyyar Dam, Koyikkal Palace, Peppara, Agasthyakoodam, Ponmudi, Tropical Botanical Garden and Research Institute, Padmanabhapuram Palace, Happy Land water theme park etc.

Attukal Bhagavathi Temple (Trivandrum)

Attukal Bhagavathi Temple is situated 2 Km away from the city. Pongala(a form of porridge) is favourite offering to the Goddess Bhagavathi. The famous Pongala festival is celebrated during the Malayalam month 'Kumbham' (Feb-March)

Sri Padmanabha Swami Temple (Trivandrum)



Situated near KSRTC bus stand at East fort. Here the presiding deity is Mahavishnu reclining on the serpent "Anantha".  The architectural work in this temple is famous. The 'Ottakkalamandapam' is a special special attraction. The rulers of Travancore were called by the name 'Padmanabhadasan'.
